Healthy, Tasty Guiltless Indulgences, Desserts and Snacks

Oscar Wilde said that the best way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.  We all crave desserts so why not a healthy temptation, if we have that choice!

My 100% vegan desserts & snacks contain Only great-for-you ingredients and superfoods. Delicious yet healthy! No need to compromise taste to get the nutrition your body really needs and craves.

Always made from organic ingredients just like I do for my own family! Organic produce means that no harmful fertilizers and pesticides are ever used and pesticides are a serious problem with much of the vegetables, fruits, and berries sold in stores.  Additionally, organic produce tends to have higher amounts of various nutrients and much higher quantities of antioxidants (excess free radical fighters) than non-organic foods. Some studies even show that organic produce is more flavorful in a side-by-side analysis.  Imagine how excited I feel to be able to eat so many local organic ingredients in Hyderabad!

The snacks are never fried or baked but rather dried at VERY low temperatures of no more than 46ºC (similar to sun-drying), which not only preserves the food enzymes intact but also maximizes the amount of vitamins, phytonutrients, flavonoids, and other vital nutrients which are all affected by higher temperatures.

My snacks, cookies & desserts have a high ORAC score! ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) is a score used to compare foods that are rich in antioxidants which help protect our cells & their components from oxidative damage & destroy, in our bodies, excess free radicals – one of the causes of premature aging, heart disease, inflammation, arthritis, osteoporosis, wrinkles, DNA damage (from pollution, toxic exposures, diet, etc.), cancer and other health challenges.

We never add any ingredients which are so common in snacks and cookies like sugar, white flour, saturated fats, fried ingredients and trans facts, high salt content, high-calorie-but-no-nutrient ingredients, preservatives, additives, artificial colors, artificial flavors or anything else which can rob you of vibrant health & energy, reduce your immunity, lifespan and quality of life and frequently begin or speed up the onset of various diseases.

Chewy Walnut & Apple

Cookies:

Ingredients & what makes them so good for you:

  • Apples: We’ve all heard the phrase “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”, but did you ever wonder why? Not just tasty, but apples also have properties that many other fruits don’t, proven by over 4000 scientific studies. Apples are very rich vitamin C also in flavonoids (a type of antioxidant) which can prevent heart disease & fight excess free radicals which accelerate the aging process. Flavonoids and other compounds in apples have also shown their ability to fight breast cancer, colon, prostate and other cancers in studies at Cornell University and other prestigious institutions. Those who consume apples on a daily basis also have less respiratory problems. Apples also contain heart-friendly antioxidants called phenols which can reduce the “bad” LDL cholesterol and also improve the levels of the “good” HDL cholesterol. The many phytonutrients in apples slow down not only your body’s aging but can also slow down your brain’s and help to prevent degenerative “old age” diseases like Alzheimer’s.
  • Walnuts (soaked to make them a lot more bioavailable, easier to digest and increase their nutritional content): One of the healthiest nuts in the world. Loaded with protein, and very rich in omega 3 essential fatty acids, energy and containing many antioxidants (high ORAC value), vitamins and minerals. Walnuts are also rich in phytochemicals (a type of antioxidants) ellagic acid and polyphenolic compounds which help to protect the body against aging, cancer and inflammation. In fact, of all the nuts, walnuts are absolutely the richest in polyphenolic antioxidants. Walnuts, which are very rich in phytosterols (plant sterols), are a great way to also lower your “bad” LDL cholesterol and thus reduce your chances of heart disease. Soaking almonds for about 8 hours makes them a lot more bioavailable, easier to digest and increases their nutritional content.
  • Cantaloupe Seeds: Cantaloupe seeds are high in protein and also contain important brain-health phospholipids — phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylserine. They both improve memory, concentration and the overall cognitive function.
  • Banana: Bananas are loaded with potassium which is so beneficial to us.  Studies clearly show that if you get twice as much potassium in your diet as sodium, you decrease the risk of dying of heart disease by 50%.  Unfortunately, for most people in India and most people in the West, that ratio is reversed; they get twice as much sodium as potassium due to the salty foods, packaged foods, etc.
  • Raisin: Used in moderation, raisins are not only delicious but also a source of iron and have more potassium, per serving, than bananas.

Healthy & Heavenly Fresh Criollo Chocolate Truffles

India’s First Truly Healthy Chocolate Truffles – Absolutely Guiltless Indulgences (in moderation of course ☺). Addictively good…Try & You’ll See

Ingredients & what makes them so good for you:

  • Black Raspberry:  This very rare dark purple berry has one of the highest ORAC scores  in the world. It’s also one of Dr. Oz’s favorite anti-cancer cancer foods (Dr. Oz is the famous Oprah Winfrey doctor and talk show host). ORAC, which stands for Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity, is a score used to compare foods which are rich in antioxidants which in our bodies destroy excess free radicals, one of the causes of premature aging, heart disease, cancer, inflammation, arthritis, osteoporosis, wrinkles, DNA damage (from pollution, toxic exposures, diet, etc.) and other health challenges.  Black raspberries’ ORAC score’s 64,900, 6 times higher than blueberries, 10 times higher than red raspberries, and 2.5 times higher than the famous goji berries. Studies by Dr. Stoner and Dr. Gupta at University of Ohio (US) show that black raspberries help prevent colon, lung, breast, esophageal and other cancers. You are now feasting on the exact same berries, from exactly the same source (a small farm in the U.S.), which were used in these clinical studies so that you’re getting all the potency of these incredible berries!  Black raspberries are particularly rich in 2 powerful antioxidants called anthocyanins and ellagic acid. Black raspberries are also high in iron. Interesting to note is that the powerful antioxidants in black raspberries are those pigments which account for its dark purple, almost black, color.
  • Cacao powder (raw organic and the most prized Criollo variety): One of the tastiest and healthiest foods in the world with hundreds of clinical studies proving its benefits. Cacao beans is what chocolate is made from, but here it’s in its purest organic and absolute healthiest form: ground up unroasted cacao beans. Criollo is the rarest and tastiest of all them all. Less than 1% of all the cacao beans in the world are Criollo variety because it’s so hard to grow, but well worth it because of its wonderful flavor.  Cacao powder, has almost 100,000 ORAC value, per 100 grams, which is one the highest amounts of any edible food available, much higher than red wine, acai berry, blueberries or red raspberries. ORAC value is the amount of antioxidants (free radical fighters) which foods contain. Two groups of antioxidants in particular, polyphenols and flavonols, which raw cacao powder is particularly high in, have been the subject much research and those products high in them are dubbed “Superfoods”. Raw cacao powder is also famous for being able to reduce blood pressure and increase blood flow, lower the LDL (“bad”) cholesterol and increase the “good” HDL cholesterol, improve your mood and chase away depression and boost energy. The “good” HDL cholesterol which acts like a “garbage truck” and scavenges for excess cholesterol in the body by bringing it back to your liver (which makes cholesterol). On the other hand the “bad” LDL cholesterol tries to fight that by bringing excess cholesterol away from the liver depositing it in the arteries leading to artery blockages, called “plaque”, which causes heart attacks by narrowing the arteries restricting blood flow. Oprah Winfrey’s famous Dr. Oz considers raw cacao one of the healthiest foods in the world along with almonds, oats, green tea and broccoli! Raw cacao also has great anti-aging & anti-inflammatory properties. A large well-conducted 2009 study from the prestigious Karolinska Institute (Sweden) showed that those who regularly indulged in moderate quantities of cacao or 70%+ dark chocolate were up to 3 times less likely to die from heart disease than who never ate it. So cacao powder is a proven ingredient to live a longer and healthier life! Enjoy… Raw cacao powder is also rich is heart-friendly magnesium, and contains calcium, iron, zinc, copper, potassium, manganese, chromium, vitamins B & C.
  • Cashews: When eaten in reasonable quantities, cashews are actually really good for us! They’re a great source of the heart-friendly magnesium, Omega 3 essential fatty acids and monounsaturated fats (which olive oil is so famous for). Cashews can also add a nice creaminess and can thus replace the highly fattening milk-derived cream which contains unhealthy saturated fats. The monounsaturated fats in cashews can also lower the “bad” LDL cholesterol which is good for your heart health. Not all fats are created equal and cashews, along with other sources of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, prove that!
  • Dates: Dates are not only a naturally sweet fruit but are also rich in magnesium, vitamin A, vitamin B1 and phosphorus. Dates have more potassium, per serving, than bananas. There are more than 400 varieties of dates.

Flax, Almond & Curry Leaf Crackers

Ingredients & what makes them so good for you:

All nuts and seeds used are soaked for 8-10 hours to make them a lot more bioavailable, easier to digest and increase their nutritional content!

  • Flax Seeds: Flax Seeds are high in soluble fiber, protein and rich in vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9 (folic acid), calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, phosphorus & zinc. It has more lignans than any other plant and has anti-cancer properties and does wonders for the heart because it has a high content of omega 3 EFA’s. EFA’s are great for brain health, memory and concentration. Flax seeds are rich in phytosterols which can lower the “bad” LDL cholesterol levels. An amazing seed!
  • Almonds (soaked): Almonds are the only highly alkaline (as opposed to acidic) nuts and are considered the healthiest nuts you can buy.  They’re a powerhouse of nutrients like potassium, calcium, magnesium, folic acid, riboflavin, fiber, phosphorus and vitamin E. Almost 20% of almond’s weight is protein. Soaking almonds 8-10 hours makes them a lot more bioavailable and increases their nutritional content. Almonds, which are very rich in phytosterols (plant sterols), are a great way to also lower your “bad” LDL cholesterol and thus reduce your chances of heart disease.
  • Cantaloupe Seeds: Another frequently discarded seed is a good source of protein, around 20% by weight and also contain beneficial essential fatty acids (EFA’s).
  • Watermelon Seeds: Frequently discarded, these seeds are actually packed with nutrition. They’re 35% protein & high in healthy fats. They also contain lots of minerals in high amounts such as iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, copper, calcium and many vitamins.
  • Carrots: As you probably already know, carrots are very rich in eye-friendly vitamin A, but it is also rich is dietary fiber, antioxidants and minerals. It also contains vitamins B3, B6, B9 and potassium.
  • Curry leaves (karivepaku): A good source of iron, vitamin A, vitamin-B group, fiber and protein, curry leaves are also extremely high in antioxidants, plant sterols, flavonoids & glycolsides. Curry leaves, which are rich in phytosterols (plant sterols), are a great way to also lower your “bad” LDL cholesterol and reduce your chances of heart disease. There are studies showing that curry leaves have anti-inflammatory and even anti-cancer activity.
  • Custom spice mix: Spices can also be a good source of valuable nutrients. For example, turmeric can reduce inflammation in arthritis patients, chili peppers are heart-friendly and also have pain relief abilities. Garlic has anti-fungal, anti-parasitic, antibacterial, antiviral properties and in some cases can even stop blood clots from forming in the arteries. The list of benefits of various spices goes on and on…

Chocolate, Walnut & Fruit

Cookies

  • Cantaloupe Seeds: Cantaloupe seeds are high in protein and also contain important brain-health phospholipids — phosphatidylcholine and phosphatidylserine. They both improve memory, concentration and the overall cognitive function.
  • Watermelon Seeds: High in protein and loaded with minerals, watermelon seeds are unjustly underrated in their nutritional value.

Why My Snacks and Desserts Cost More

Why are other snacks, cookies and desserts so inexpensive in comparison to mine? It’s simple: the most common ingredients in snacks and most desserts are white flour, sugar, salt and fried oils. These ingredients indeed cost very little and there’s no nutrition of any kind in these yet they’re usually high in calories, called “empty calories”!

On the other hand, Guiltless Indulgences™ snacks and desserts are made with expensive organic and high quality ingredients which are really great for your health and loaded vitamins, minerals and antioxidants & all made in small batches using sophisticated US equipment designed to maximally preserve the nutritional content of each ingredient including preserving enzymes and phytonutrients which can be easily be destroyed at temperatures above 46ºC.

Healthy Laddus

My laddus contain only ingredients such as organic sesame, other seeds & organic jaggery

About Sesame seeds’ benefit:  Sesame seeds are exceptionally rich in iron, magnesium, manganese, copper and calcium and also contain vitamin B1 and vitamin E.  Sesame seems are one of the highest known sources of lignans which are anti-oxidant-like types of phytoestrogens which have protecttive action against various kinds of cancers, heart disease and osteoporosis (lower bone density which can lead to bone fractures).  Among the popular edible oils, sesame oil has the highest antioxidant content and the seeds also contain phytosterols associated with reduced levels of blood cholesterol. Sesame also has four times more calcium than cow’s milk.

Nut & Seed Brittles (Chikkis)

Most chikkis contain added glucose or other sugars and other unhealthy ingredients. They usually contain very little nutritional value. Here’s a healthier alternative.

Nut & seed brittles made with various organic seeds  such as sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, cashews,  pistachios, almonds, whole grain puffs & some jaggery!

Why It’s Important to Drink Lots of Water and How Much of It to Drink – The Formula

Please don’t’ forget to consume lots of purified water, especially when consuming a high fiber diet!  8-12 glasses of water per day (depending on your weight) with a little lemon or lime squeezed into it. If this seems too much start increasing your water intake and over a period of just a few weeks your body will be used to the new much healthier regimen.

Lemon water doesn’t only taste great but it’s vital for good overall health, assists your body in taking out the daily toxins and hydrates every cell in your body the way no other drink can.  Also, adding lemon/lime to water makes the water alkaline-forming (despite being acidic to taste) which is great for you. It’s a “French secret” to drink water with lemon throughout the day to maintain perfect weight and even lose excess weight. In general, what we frequently perceive as hunger is actually thirst which we misinterpret!  Just drink a glass of water with lemon or coconut water…and hunger can sometimes disappear.

Overeating & unnecessary weight gain can result when we misinterpret the body’s need for water & under-supply those needs. In other words our mistaken belief that dry mouth is the first symptom of thirst is incorrect; it’s actually one of the last ones, when we are really dehydrated!

The rule of thumb for how much water to drink is: “One glass for every 7 kg of body weight”.  So a 70 kg person would need 10 glasses of purified water daily, assuming each glass is 250 ml (standard glass).

14 Reasons Why “Regular” Snacks Rob You of Good Health and Shorten Your Life

The modern trend is to produce food which is:

  • High in calories (empty calories without nutrition)
  • Highly processed
  • Frequently fried (see below about trans fats)
  • Lacking in nutrients or health benefits of any kind
  • Loaded with sugar, salt, white flour (called  the “3 White Poisons” of any diet)
  • High in unhealthy saturated and other fats
  • Containing artificial colors and flavors
  • Loaded with preservatives, excitotoxins, additives and other ingredients which rob you of vibrant health and energy, reduce your immunity, lifespan and quality of life and frequently begin or speed up the onset of various diseases.

Furthermore, most prepared foods and snacks are high in harmful artificial trans-fats which are formed when oils are exposed to high heat which turn even beneficial oils into partially hydrogenated oils. Trans fats increase the risk of heart disease, up the levels of the “bad” LDL cholesterol and decrease the levels of the “good” HDL cholesterol. Trans fats greatly contribute to the formation of excess “free radicals” in the body which are directly linked to cancer. Trans fats can lead to a 75% increase in breast cancer, and an increase in prostate cancer and other cancers. They also can lead to weight gain, obesity, depression, liver dysfunction, infertility in women and other health problems. This is why many places have banned trans fats: New York City and various other parts of the US, Switzerland, Denmark, and others.

The Solution to the Problem –

Complicated for Us but Easy for You!

All the ingredients we use are carefully sourced from organic & highest quality producers. Such ingredients are difficult to find in India and for years we’ve been looking for reliable ways to bring these high-quality, nutrient-rich and “exotic” ingredients to Hyderabad.

All the Vibrant Livin anti-oxidant-rich food is packed with natural goodness you can really taste in very bite. It’s also never processed, alkaline-forming, high in fiber, made with only organic and natural high quality ingredients…and lots of LOVE (and of course skill, knowledge and know-how I accumulated in the U.S., Canada and Italy over the last 20 years).

Our food is vegan for maximum health benefits and never has added sugars, preservatives, artificial ingredients of any kind and is always packed with nutrient-rich super healthy foods, fiber, sprouted nuts and seeds, superfoods, and only things which are good for your health & don’t leave you feeling heavy but rather full of vibrant positive energy you crave.

Furthermore, our snacks and many other items are prepared at very low temperatures of no more than  46ºC, which is similar to “sun-drying.” This not only preserves food enzymes intact but also maximizes the amount of highly beneficial vitamins, phytochemicals (phytonutrients), flavonoids, and other vital nutrients which are all affected by higher temperatures.

We soak/sprout nuts & seeds between 4 and 8 hours (each nut a different optimal time) as they become a powerhouse of nutrients and much better for you and much easier digested & assimilated! They’re full of protein and can be eaten by themselves or combined with vegetables to give you a nice snack or part of a meal. Even though it’s time-consuming, nuts and seeds should be soaked before using them to better the digestion and absorption of nutrients. There are also enzyme inhibitors in nuts that hinder absorption of nutrients when they are not soaked and sprouted.

All surfaces of fruits and vegetables we use are washed & sterilized prior to usage using sophisticated imported equipment. When any ingredients were not obtainable as organic, our specialized equipment even removes most of the pesticides or other chemicals from the surface of the produce! In India this level of commitment to such high hygiene standards is almost unheard of.  However, it’s the standards I have for my own family and see no reason why you wouldn’t deserve the same piece of mind!
